HV Talent on Display at the New York State Regional Championship Tournament

Many Hudson Valley Field Hockey Club players took to the pitch at Valhalla High School for the New York State Regional Championship Tournament yesterday. It was a great day for field hockey fans in Westchester and in New York State as there was a lot of talent displayed. Although the turf's surface was a little slower than usual the girls seemed to make the needed adjustments. HV's Grace Fitzgerald got a terrific strike off a corner that Lizzie Clarke tip into the net to get the scoring started for Mamaroneck. Maine-Endwell launched an impressive comeback in the second half and could have equalized the score off a corner but Mamaronecks’ defense held strong.

In the class B Title Game, Lakeland dominated on offense with over 40 circle entries but Vestal’s goalkeeper was on fire. Vestal played hard from start to finish.  HV's Megan Fahey found the first opening off of a rebound and put the ball into the back of the net to get Lakeland on the board.  The score at half was 1-0 Lakeland.  Lakeland answered with three goals in the second half two of which came in the last ten minutes. HV’s Brianna Muniz found the back of the net off a fast break to notch Lakeland’s second goal of the day. The low angle shot defelected off a Vestal defender. Jessica Ascencao got on the board for Lakeland off an assist on a corner from Mia Lennon. The final goal would come from HV's Dana Bozek who blasted a rocket from the top of the circle which was deflected into the net off the stick of one of the Vestal’s defenders.  Midfielders Val Perkins had Julia Wanamaker had strong performances.

Lakelands’ defense led by Julia Kim, Katie Irish and Mia Lennon was very stingy on scoring opportunities for the Golden Bears. Goalkeeper Madison Beames had a really nice save in the first half. Her cross over kick was perfectly executed. Left back Kelsey McCrudden also added some impressive defensive stops.

Both teams advanced to the final four next weekend.  Good luck Girls!
